Central New York Oil and Gas Company, L.L.C., an affiliate of eCORP, L.L.C., announced today that the company filed its application for construction and operation of the Stagecoach Storage Field with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on December 30, 1999. The company proposes to convert a producing natural gas field, the Stagecoach Field, into a high performance natural gas storage facility. When competed, the Stagecoach Storage Field is expected to store 13-15 billion cubic feet of gas, with up to 250 million dekatherms per day of injection capability and up to 500 million dekatherms per day of withdrawal capability. The Stagecoach Storage Field will be developed using eCORP’s Salternatives™ Technology.
The Stagecoach Storage Field is located in Tioga County, New York, near the city of Binghamton. Pipeline access to the Stagecoach Storage Field will be provided by Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company through a lateral pipeline connecting the storage field to Tennessee’s 300 Line. Concurrent with the company’s filing, Tennessee has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for construction of a lateral pipeline sufficient to transport up to 500,000 dekatherms per day to and from the Stagecoach Storage Field as well as other related downstream facilities.
“Deregulation and unbundling of the natural gas industry, coupled with the growth of natural gas fueled power generation, has created the need for high performance gas storage,” said John F. Thrash, President and CEO of eCORP. “Stagecoach not only satisfies the need for new multi-cycling storage, it represents a major step in our company’s plan to develop a network of gas storage and power generation facilities throughout North America.” John Somerhalder, President of Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company added, "We are pleased to be the pipeline of choice for the Stagecoach Storage Field and believe the additional flexibility resulting from its high deliverability will be important to customers in the region."
eCORP, through another affiliate, Twin Tier Power, L.L.C., is building a 520 MW gas fueled power generation project also located in Tioga County, New York. Twin Tier will be connected directly to the Stagecoach Storage Field. “Being directly connected to the Stagecoach Storage Field will ensure maximum fuel reliability and operating flexibility for Twin Tier. We have seen the substantial benefits of this type of an arrangement in our Stuart Storage Field in Oklahoma, which is directly connected to Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company’s 1500 MW Seminole Power Plant,” added Mr. Thrash.
